As you may know, "How Insensitive" by Antonio Carlos Jobim, is based on the structure of this piece. I've performed both together in a concert setting, and the pairing is very effective.

    Keith88,

Actually, although I know both pieces well, I didn't realize the relationship. Thanks for the heads-up.

    Cheers,

    Brambles,

    Thank you.

    Very cool. And very suitable.

John Mehegan, in his landmark analysis of what he calls the A and B forms of rootless jazz chords, attributes the advent of the A form to Chopin.

The history of the A Form begins in the classical piano literature of the Nineteenth Century. This form first appeared in the piano works of Frederick Chopin and became one of the vernacular sounds of the Nineteenth-Century piano concerto. In this form, the third appears in the bass of the minor voicing, the seventh appears in the bass of the dominant voicing, and the third again appears in the bass of the major voicing. This is the older of the two forms and is usually more familiar to the average pianist for that reason.
    — John Mehegan, Jazz Improvisation 4: Contemporary Piano Styles

This prelude is an excellent example of the form.

    Cheers,
    Jer

    Brambles,

I took the liberty of making a revision of your chart, with some of the harmonies changed.

I know it's taking liberties with Chopin, but I wanted to do a version in which the changes conformed more closely to conventional jazz practice, especially in the ii-V-I patterns.
